Ok. I have noticed that it has been awhile since my last update. This does not mean that we haven’t done anything since November. Actually, it means just the opposite.
November was a board meeting. We discussed the upcoming year’s budget, projects, membership, etc. Eventually, the minutes will be posted on our forum, if you are interested in more information.
We did take time off during December to be with family for the holidays.
January saw our first official member’s meeting. This was preceded by a Board meeting and since only 2 members were not present at the board meeting, but did show up for the member’s meeting, bringing them up to speed went quick. Since the member’s meeting was so short, we all sat down and played cards. Everyone seemed to have a good time. The Board meeting minutes have been posted in our forum.
February was supposed to be a member’s social where we went bowling. I sort of goofed that up. Who knew that you would need reservations for a lane on Saturday night? Hmph! As the membership is over 21, we decided to carry the social over at a local tavern, where the few members that did attend could get a drink and play some pool. The night ended a little early, but it seemed that we all enjoyed ourselves.
There was an impromptu Board meeting at a local Shari’s restaurant to discuss the up-coming Convention party. This was mostly to iron out a few questions about the member’s only party at Norwescon. Our official March meeting will be held at the mini-storage where the group’s equipment is held. This will be to do one last inventory, move the items to allow for easy load-out, and to discuss some of the SOP for the Convention setup. All members are invited. Please contact Drew Rounsville for location if unknown.
That brings up to the events of the last 6 months.
Thanksgiving weekend was Orycon. Shockwave did not make an official appearance at the convention but I did take the trip down to Portland to do a little face time, and to drop off fliers for our Norwescon party. As I didn’t have the money to buy a badge, I didn’t stay long (I actually went ice skating at the Mall across the street – boy, had it been awhile).
We also missed Rustycon. As it turned out, this was the weekend we planned to celebrate the birthday of Shockwave's secretary, Heather. We held the party at Fado’s in Seattle, and did have a large turnout for this event. If you haven’t ever eaten at Fado’s, it is highly recommended.
March 13th and 14th was Emerald City Comicon. I did get a chance to make it to this event and it was nuts! Stan Lee was one of the guests of honor and the line to see him was over an hour long (and that was ONLY if you prepurchased your tickets for a signing). An example how nuts this was? If you showed up at 10 without the prepurchased ticket, they sent you away to get in line an hour later to purchase a ticket, to wait in line another hour to meet Stan Lee. The line was only slightly less nuts for Leonard Nimoy.
I did get to meet Erin. Erin is still a very beautiful woman and nice as hell. Of course, it didn’t help that I had such a huge crush on her when she was on both Buck Rogers in the late 1970’s and Silver Spoons in the early 1980’s. I was surprised that she was such a large fan of Sci-Fi, or at least, from my brief conversation with her, that was how it seemed.
Though I didn’t get to talk to them for long, I did get to talk to 3 cast of The Guild (if you haven’t seen this yet, it is available on Netflix – Check it out as it is FUNNY AS HELL!). I was disappointed at the announcement that Felicia Day would not be able to make it.
Lou Ferrigno was also a guest. He is still as huge as when he played the Hulk. I just gotta say DAMN he’s huge!!!!
Enough about that. Time for the Main Event: Norwescon! But… more about that later. |
