A Decker Bar is a Cyberpunk genre´ term for any bar or club that caters to mostly Deckers, or deckjockeys (Deckers and deckjockeys are hackers, Netrunners and cyberjunkies). Decker bars give these people a place to interface, dance, drink and a place to jack into the Net. The bars tend to be dark, loud and offer a retro (late 20th century) decor and Techno, Industrial and New Wave music. Decker bars are known to be an infamous place to hang out. You are only somebody if you are recognized as a regular of THE most popular Decker bar in your area.
Deckerbar is in the process of incorporating under the 501(c)(3) Non-Profit Organization incorporation laws. This was a necessity to continue to bring you the Convention entertainment that you have grown to expect from us. For us to continue to serve alcohol at our parties, we are required to have a liquor license. Since we are not going to apply for a year round license, AND, the hotel hosting the convention is not going to sign off on the idea, AND, the liquor control board is not going to grant us one for the location that we hold these parties, we have decided to go Non-Profit so that we can apply for a special occasion liquor license. We use the revenue generated from the sales of our alchohol to recoup some of the cost of the party, otherwise, it would be too expensive to continue to operate. For the last two conventions, we have been sponsored by a non-profit, and this year (2009) we finally exceeded our budget needs. Thank you for all that. This also means that this year, we have a surplus of cash. That surplus is going to be donated to the non-profit that has sponsored us. The donation is going to Operation Results: Start Your Engines program. This is a program that helps high school students learn automotive technician skills by receiving donated cars, and giving them to high school auto repair programs for rehabilitation at Operation Results expenses. When completed, the vehicles have provided technical training to high school students, and are sold or given to low income, working families in need of reliable transportation. All profits from these sales are reinvested in equipment and parts for the shop. At this time, the program is looking for a new high school to operate out of, so if anyone knows of a school in need of such a program, email the administrator of this site.
Keep an eye on this site to find out where you can catch us next. |
